Families and friends of our residents are an important part of the Mount St. Mary community of caring. That’s why we support them as they continue to care for their loved ones at Mount St. Mary.
The Hospital staff values families and friends and encourages them to feel at home. Family members are welcome to come into the House kitchen and make a cup of tea, spend a moment talking with care-givers, or have dinner with us (you can purchase your meal in the House, or in the Café on the Village Square).
Pastoral Care, counseling, and spiritual guidance is available for family members and friends as well as for residents. There are opportunities for one-on-one visits, individual or group prayer, celebrations of the sacraments and other religious rites.
Family connections are important
We encourage families to visit and engage residents in familiar activities. Simple things, like preparing food, setting the table or caring for a pet can make a resident feel more at home and more connected. A walk through the garden, when the sun is warm and flowers are in bloom can bring back happy memories and reduce anxiety.
We have a Guest Suite where out-of-town families can sleep or enjoy a family get-together in private. Families of residents who are dying may choose to stay here, or sleep over on a sleeper-chair in their loved-one’s room.
