Residents live in small groups where they can be involved, as much as they are able, in the comforting and familiar activities of daily life.

Mount St. Mary Hospital provides a wide range of services for residents. There is 24 hour nursing, occupational therapy, physiotherapy, a dietician, pharmacist, social worker, pastoral care staff, a chapel for spiritual care, a hair salon, library, outdoor gardens, pastoral care, esthetics services, music therapy, art club, leisure activities and outings.

Volunteers are assigned to each House, so they become familiar with residents and families. Their role is to provide companionship and help counteract boredom or loneliness.

Although residents and families experience a home-like environment, Mount St. Mary is a working hospital. Hospital amenities are discretely integrated into the design of the Houses, with medications and chart storage out of sight, food service corridors accessed off the kitchen, and a Team Conference Centre on each floor.

Registered Nurses carry wireless phones and all care staff, including RNs, LPNs and RCAs work with pocket pagers rather than overhead paging, except in the event of a disaster. This helps maintain a calm, peaceful atmosphere for residents, while ensuring care is available when it is needed.
