Each upper floor of Mount St. Mary has four separate Houses, where 12 or 13 people with similar care-needs live. Each House has its own front entrance, dining room, kitchenette, living room, sunroom and personal laundry room. Most rooms are private, with ensuite washrooms and wheelchair accessible showers, and there are a small number of double rooms available for people who prefer to have a roommate. There is a Bathing Spa on each level for assisted baths. The same staff remain with each House so staff and residents get to know each other, and residents’ preferences can be more easily accommodated.
Meals are prepared in a central kitchen and brought through service corridors to the House kitchen where they are served. Some people gather for meals in the House dining room, others prefer to eat in the privacy of their own room or with friends or family in the Village Square.
The centre of the community
The centre of community life at Mount St. Mary is our Village Square, with its Café, Hair Salon, Community Bathing Spa, Library, Gift Shop and the Blessed Marie Anne Blondin Chapel. Much of the artwork throughout our facility was generously donated by friends of Mount St. Mary, as were the Chapel, garden fountain and the van, which transports residents on outings. Residents have also contributed to this community space. Some of the artwork that hangs in the hallways was painted by residents participating in our Art Club.
Living areas are enhanced by the integration of two garden spaces, the Blondin Green, outside the Village Square, and the Peace Garden, on top the parkade. We have a guest suite for out-of-town guests, and we welcome children and family pets to visit.
